Using Public Surplus

LACCD students can now have access to some of the District’s surplus goods.  Almost any type of product is available on Public Surplus: mousetraps, portable classrooms, automobiles, buses, heavy equipment, shop equipment, kitchen equipment, athletic equipment, musical instruments, computers, printers, furniture and more.

Browse Auctions by Categories

1. Go to www.publicsurplus.com
2. Search assets by "Categories" from one of the menu options that is displayed on the left side of the screen.
3. The auctions that are in the category you have selected will be displayed.
4. Select the auction you want to view.

Browse Auctions by Keyword Search

1. Navigate to the section titled “Looking for a specific item?” and type the item keyword in the blank field provided.
2. The auctions that contain the item will be displayed.
3. Select more specific search criteria from this screen. This includes: auction start or end date, price range, location, etc. This must be done before you can select an agency.

Browse Auctions by Region and by Agency

1. Navigate to the section titled “Browse auctions within area” and click “Select Region” link to search for a specific location. Then click “Select Agency” link to search for a specific agency.
2. Select the “View All Auctions” for the agency name selected.
3. Current auctions are displayed. Select the auction you are interested in viewing. (If there are no auctions currently listed “No auctions found” will be stated.)
4. The auction number and item description is displayed.

If you are interested in bidding on an auction item you are required to register. For registration instructions, please refer to the section below “To Bid On Auctions.”

To Bid On Auctions

1. Go to www.publicsurplus.com
2. Navigate to the section titled “Register to become part of the Public Surplus” and click the "Register" button.
3. An “Info About You” form is displayed. Input all requested information.
4. To proceed with your registration process, you must agree to the “Public Surplus User Agreement.”
5. Click on the "Register" button located at the end of the form to submit your information.
6. Confirmation of your registration will be emailed to you. A link and a confirmation code will be included in the email.
7. Click the link that is included in your confirmation email or copy and paste it to your web browser to complete the registration process.
8. Repeat steps 1 and 2 in the “View Auctions” section above.
9. Use your new username and password to login to the Public Surplus website and begin bidding on auctions.
